What is mold?

Mold is naturally occurring and found all over the globe and plays an important role in the outdoor environment by breaking down organic matter. However, when mold is found indoors, it is problematic and can lead to issues with structural integrity of your home and even cause health problems when touched or inhaled.

Exposure to mold

Molds can produce allergens, which cause allergic reactions, and mycotoxins, toxic compounds produced by certain types of molds. Inhaling mold spores can cause allergic reactions such as sneezing, red eyes, runny nose and skin rash. Symptoms of allergic reaction to molds can be caused by both actively growing and dormant mold. Exposure to mold can also trigger attacks in people with asthma. In severe cases, molds have been shown to cause infections. Some of the common indoor molds are penecillium, cladsporium, alternaria, and aspergillus.
